Liberal Arts College to Give Students Studying Resort Management Access from Ski Lodge.

Fort Lee, NJ, November 7, 2005 - Whale today announced that Green Mountain College selected Whale's Intelligent Application Gateways solution to enhance its distance-learning program, providing students secure and seamless access to course material and educational tools from anywhere.

An environmentally themed liberal arts college, the Vermont-based Green Mountain College, needed a solution that would allow them to educate their students from anywhere, including providing off-campus courses to a remote-learning facility at a mountain resort. In addition, Green Mountain College needed to provide access to the tools its students required to successfully fulfill their course criteria, including the assets of the university library. Faculty and staff also required access from anywhere to collaborative and educational materials.

"We were searching for a distance-learning solution to allow us to provide our students studying resort management at our satellite facilities in Killington, Vermont the ability to complete coursework in a timely and convenient manner," said Donald Williams, Network Manager at Green Mountain College. "The solution had to be secure enough not only to provide this access but also had to allow us to leverage the college's information infrastructure for the benefit of all of our 700-plus students. Whale's Intelligent Application Gateways solution not only enabled us to do both but it exceeded our expectations by providing an easy and cost-effective way for extending anywhere access to our Lexus-Nexus database which is designed for LAN access only. Our staff and students, for example, now can access more than 20,000 electronic full text books from the convenience of any Internet-connected device."

Selected by leading organizations around the world Whale's technology offers exceptional flexibility without compromising on security. Its Intelligent Application Gateways provide deep levels of security policy granularity, enhanced and seamless user experience and easy integration into existing network infrastructures and key business applications and resources.

"We are pleased that an academic institution like Green Mountain College selected Whale for its unsurpassed ability to provide secure and intuitive access to educational information and materials from anywhere," said Roger Pilc, CEO of Whale Communications.  "We strive to ensure that our clients are able to meet the continued and often unique criteria that their specific end-users require."
