Whale wins SC Magazine European Excellence Award for Best Security Solution for Government
5/5/2005

London, UK - 5 May, 2005 - Whale Communications, the leading enterprise-level SSL VPN provider, announced today that its e-Gap® Remote Access Appliance has been awarded "Best Security Solution for Government" in the SC Magazine European Excellence Awards.  The award was announced last week at the SC Awards Gala Dinner in London.

The SC Magazine European Excellence Awards have been established this year to recognise the best products and best people in the European security industry.  They are voted on by a panel of experts consisting of 40 senior-level security directors throughout Europe.  The European programme received over 100 product nominations from more than 300 companies across more than 14 security-related categories.  Whale was also a short-listed finalist for "Best Security Solution for Healthcare".

"We are honoured to receive this award, which testifies to the growing uptake of our SSL VPN technology within this market.  The unprecedented granularity we offer in securing both the access and the data sources, together with our patented Air Gap technology creating a physical separation between the Internet and the internal network, is proving very appealing to governmental institutions.  It supports their need for a flexible, adaptable approach coupled with maximum security," said Daniel Steiner, President of Whale.

Whale has an impressive customer list within the governmental area including: Washington State Department of Transportation (USA), Scottish Parliament, the UK Labour Party, Bavarian Justice Department (Germany), Surrey Heath Borough Council, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, Immigration Department of Hong Kong, Landkreis Lueneberg local council (Germany), Israeli Securities Authority, National Insurance Institute Israel, Salt Lake County (USA), and States of Jersey.

"This is the ninth year of the SC Magazine awards. Each year the standard of entries gets higher, and the judging more rigorous. Any winner of an SC Award can be rightly proud," said Ron Condon, global Editor-in-Chief for SC Magazine.

The judges' verdict was: "You cannot do much better than no connection at all - Whale's "air gap" technology isolates the internal network completely from the outside."

Whale's e-Gap SSL VPN enables secure access by employees, officials and the public to sensitive information and applications from any web browser. Unique infrastructure and functionality assures military-grade security even from public locations, enabling anywhere productivity and freely accessible e-government services.
