ATSC/NTSC design, based on Oplus' display processor chipset & STMicroelectronics' HD MPEG decoder chip, speeds time to market for high-quality iDTVs.
CES, Las Vegas, January 6, 2005 - Oplus Technologies, Ltd., a leading provider of innovative system-on-chip and software solutions for Flat Panel TVs and digital displays, today introduced the Leonardoa - an ATSC-compliant hardware and software reference design for a fully functional integrated digital HDTV flat panel television. It is being demonstrated at the Oplus booth at CES in Las Vegas, January 6-9, 2005 (#36172 & #36173 South Hall 4)
Leonardo is based on Oplus' Rembrandta-102 advanced display processor and Matissea high-quality video de-interlacer, together with STMicroelectronics' STi7710 HD MPEG decoder chip. As a complete, hardware and software ATSC-compliant design, Leonardo offers manufacturers a rapid, cost effective way to get to market with TVs that meet the U.S. FCC requirement for including a digital ATSC tuner in the TV for over-the-air digital broadcast reception.
"The U.S. FCC requirements and the emerging availability of high-definition TV broadcast content are driving TV manufacturers to develop integrated DTV products," said Yair Alpern, CEO of Oplus Technologies. "Leonardo enables manufacturers to position themselves for success in this growing market as it supports both analog and digital TV reception, with superb image quality and extensive functionality, yet still enables a highly affordable bill of materials and fast time to market."
Leonardo includes a complete DTV software package, including low-level drivers, middle-layer software APIs, and TV application with Electronic Program Guide (EPG). It is fully customizable, enabling manufacturers to select functions and features according to the needs of their target market.
Armando Caltabiano, Retail Multimedia and Satellite division General Manager at STMicroelectronics, commented: "Our expertise in digital video applications and the extensive capabilities of Oplus' high-quality display processors creates a winning combination for integrated DTV manufacturers. Leonardo offers a complete reference design ready for production now, in 2005."
