When BRM Capital first invested in Oplus, the market for Digital TVs was in its infancy. BRM identified the huge business potential for silicon in the digital TV market and was impressed with the superiority of Oplus technology for developing cutting edge video processors chipsets.
BRM assumed an active role in the company, helping recruit key management and working to identify new market opportunities. BRM led an additional round of financing for the company in 2003, providing capital to further strengthen the company market position.
Intel, a strategic partner, realized that Oplus’ technology was vital to their new consumer electronics business strategy, as well as to their core business of processors and chipsets, and acquired the company in April 2005.
