BRM was one of the founding investors in Whale, taking an active role from the outset. In 2002 Whale launched its SSL VPN solution, providing a sophisticated application-aware security solution for enterprise customers. The company quickly won deals with auspicious customers such as Siemens, the Financial Times, Lockheed Martin and Coca Cola.
BRM understood that the future success of the company hinged on its ability to enter into strategic relationships with the established industry giants like Microsoft. After Eli Barkat became Chairman of the Board in 2005, this focus on partnerships bore fruit as an increasing percentage of Whale’s sales were generated by Microsoft and other partners.
In 2006, as a result of the close relationship that had developed between the two companies, Microsoft acquired Whale as the cornerstone of its strategy to deliver a comprehensive secure access platform to its customers.
